WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

LWG certification is awarded to tanneries that demonstrate environmental best practices.

What you need to know:

• Since 2010, Timberland has had a policy to only source leather from tanneries that achieve either silver or gold certification from the Leather Working Group, an independent group of tanneries, brands and chemical suppliers that has worked to develop and maintain a protocol to assess the environmental compliance and performance capabilities of tanneries, and to promote sustainable and appropriate environmental business practices within the leather industry.

ReBOTL™ material contains at least 50% recycled plastic. Around the world, the use of plastic water bottles is on the rise. And as a result, so are the trash heaps. But thanks to some forward-thinking people, billions of bottles across the globe are collected, recycled, and turned into durable RPET yarns (that’s Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate, to get scientific) that we then use to make products. This process is great for business and supports jobs, too.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• Non-biodegradable PET plastic bottles are collected, shredded and recycled into material.
• This material is used in footwear uppers and linings; and bag and outerwear shells, linings, and insulations.
• Material contains at least 50% recycled plastic.
• So far, over 445 metric tons of plastic waste has found new life in our products: in 2018 alone, over 45 metric tons.

A % of this product has been made from pre used materials.

Recovering material from waste and turning it into new products. The original product is destroyed in this process but it is used to form new product.

What you need to know:

• Since 2009 Timberland has re used 345 million plastic bottles so far
• Timberland Earthkeepers® collection is crafted from at least 50% recycled materials, which helps cut down on the environmental impact of material production and reduce wasteage.
• For every 10 The North Face Denali fleeces produced , The North Face remake 4 more fleeces out of the scraps.

FOOTWEAR TESTING

• Static Testing: Footwear must first be submerged in water for four hours and remain dry inside.
• Flex Testing: The interior of the footwear must remain dry after 15,000 flexes while submerged in water.
